Abstract :There are some critical opinions about using Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator (CUSA) for lymph node dissection in primary lung cancer. However, very few reports on the results of its use are available. We have been using CUSA so as to preserve the vagal nerves and bronchial arteries thereby facilitating the prevention of postoperative pulmonary complications and bronchopleural fistulas. Objective: To clarify the significance of the use of CUSA for lymph nodes dissection in primary lung cancer surgery. Methods: Postoperative complications, long term results and recurrence were studied in sixty-six cases of primary lung cancer, and the result was compared with other reports. Results: No decrease of the rate of postoperative pulmonary complication and bronchopleural fistula was observed. The long term result of stage I lung cancer was better than that of the other reports. Conclusion: The use of CUSA for lymph nodes dissection in primary lung cancer has no adverse effects and may suggest advantage of long term results of stage I diseas
